Did I wake up in a dream on this morning? I Woke up in paradise that’s for sure. Perfectly white sand and endless crystal clear waters. Honestly, a dream come true. I had been wishing to get here for oh so long and as I was about to give up my cabin crew job and that all important staff travel discount to start a new life the other side of the world, now seemed the perfect time to just book those flights.
Whenever we think of Maldives, it’s usually the over water villa that we dream of and whilst that is still on my bucket list I’m so very grateful that I had the opportunity to stay on one of the local islands – Maafushi. With this, we were able to do Maldives on a budget. Yep, it’s possible! And did we still have the best time? Of course we did. See, the thing I love so much when travelling is meeting the locals, being shown around as a friend rather than a tourist. Here that is exactly what we received. Everything so easy breezy, humble and full of love. I can’t thank the lovely Ibrahim enough for how special he made this trip for us, from the moment we arrived to the sad moment when we had to leave. We had only been there half an hour when a painted starfish was delivered to our room after me saying the one thing I really wanted to see was a starfish. Special little touches always get me.
We would spend our time wandering the island, being as small as it was we were able to see everything. Stopping so many times in complete awe of our surroundings. Our mornings would be spent at the local beach before boating to some special place like a sand island or snorkelling spot. Everything just seemed like a dream. It was a dream I never wanted to end.
